I want to personally aplogize to B, somehow my comments got blown out of proportion and did not convey the message I was trying to make. I am fully aware that without Bob there would be no Euclid. What do you mean content providers will HAVE to pay for this caching. They will only pay if they want it and it will only have any effect on the world if lots of providers use it. You sound like those people back in the mid-nineties saying that no one should build any more towers because satellite based services were going to knock out all terestrial wireless. The issue of net neutrality is not whether or not you allow tiered service levels but whether pricing is based on raw bits or it is ba

No Such Thing as Free WiFi
Where and when did EarthLink commit to city-wide free WiFi access?
What EarthLink /did/ commit to is paying for network build-outs on its own dime, at no cost to the city or taxpayers.
In certain municipalities, free access will be available in zones designated by the city and EarthLink.
When is the last time your telco or cableco offered free access to you?

The Internet As A Political Issue
Jesse has a good point that I overlooked. Akamai provides a very similar service, but charges nobody, since their business model is to pull money out of their posteriors. Not. What kind of question is that anyway? Of course the content providers will have to pay the ISPs for local caching because the content providers will have to build local cache access into their application AND they will want to ensure their content is DRM protected. This is not passive, interpoint caching.
My poi

Brad, why would the content provider have to pay for an ISP to use this caching technology? I don't believe people are paying to have their HTML cached, so why would they pay for this? The issue of net neutrality has nothing to do with technology. If it did, why would a video file bit be worth more than text file bit? Content providers pay to access the internet. Users pay to access the internet. Both sides of the connection are paid for. The Bells want to charge for preferential routing inbe

What Must Craigslist Do?
This is all fine and well except you forgot the CDA prevents liability from being placed on Craigslist.
So unless you re-write the CDA, as it currently stands Craigslist /could/ charge for ads AND still not have liability for their content.
But let's not confuse Craiglist's CDA-granted liability shield with the notion that commercial speech on the Internet cannot be controlled.
The CDA allows for this, it just places the legal liability on the one who breaks the la

So where do you stand on technologies like this?
Deployed by an ISP, it would have virtually the same effect as the ISP providing "toll lanes" for optional use by hi-bandwidth content providers. It would have to be paid for by the providers. Yet how could anyone argue that a system like this violates the concept of network neutrality? So that begs the q

JR – Euclid’s demo is done via laptops, showing the REAL TIME comparative difference between existing standard MPEG4 compatible media players such as MS Windows Media Player, Real Networks Player, etc. The technology seamlessly integrates into their software showing a side-by-side comparison of the monumental difference Euclid’s technology makes. I seriously doubt that it would be done off-site in order to insure security of the software.

KY ANGEL --- BALLSOFSTEEL’S information and advice is as good and current as it gets. Great job BOS. It is my observation that in spite of a number of entries that are essentially consistent, positive and confirm one another, some folks are always going to believe what they want to and get exercised over the latest questionable bit of news. Radio Shack needs to go back to its original customers -- hobbyists who are looking for components. There are plenty of people out there who want to do custom home A/V setups, build their own gaming or HTPCs, or trick out their car electronics. There has got to be money in catering to them. I think there is especially a brick and mortar opportunity because some these componenets are purely aesthetic and one would like to see and handle before buying, while others cost less than the shipping w

Well said, Dana.
I've always thought it's problematic to try to make a business out of a buzzword -- at least, a business that will last more than about 6 months or so.
After a while, people will start to realize that "blogs" aren't the point. The point is conversation and connection.

I may be wrong, but isnt this the part where the investment bankers step in and front the money for the sales porcess and take a percentage of the proceeds from the sale? This is how investment banking usually works, so why is more money needed? I can only imagine what type of salaries that these guys are drawing from the investments that we have all made.
