Bush's Great FavorEmail This EntryPrint This Entry

The Administration has begun its campaign against Iran through infiltration (which it denies) and by trying to cut Iran's arguments off the Internet. (Picture from CNN.)

This is an immense favor, both to Iran and to the neighboring Arab world. It forces Iran to seek alternate Internet server access for its arguments, and it will. Maybe these will be in Bahrain or Dubai (I'm guessing the former). Maybe they will be in the Ukraine. Or Russia. Or China.

Beyond this, there is now a huge opportunity being created for a free, open server system in the Arab World, somewhere beyond the intimidation of either the Iranian government or the American government.

This is the kernel from which Arab freedom will spring.

All Iranian blogs in the West, like PersianBlog, have had the rug pulled out from under them. If they're not under attack, they're now all suspect as American puppets. That's a shame.

But it's nothing compared to the opportunity now presented. The Arab World hasn't seen this kind of opportunity since Al-Jazeerah was created (in Dubai), when the BBC decided to close its Arab-language service and put dozens of high qualitiy people on the street.

I wonder who will be smart enough to take it?

Wow. Did you even read the article? The Iranians allege that the US government had involvement in telling a private server company to terminate a contract. That company did not return the reporter's call for a comment. So, therefore, the US government did it and of course, has a wide ranging policy to cut off Iran from the Internet and thus is making a serious diplomatic bluner that only a registered Republican could make. And you call Jeff Merkey paranoid... Thanks for the laugh.
