I don't mind the copyright industries making their arguments.
I do mind their hiding their sponsorship of it. And I also mind their forcing this on kids, claiming that industry propaganda is "education."
So I was shocked this week to find the industry's Whatsthedownload site advertised in my daughter's high school newsletter. The sponsorship of the site by the industry wasn't mentioned, and in fact the site name was registered via Godaddy.com by proxy -- hiding the sponsorship further.
There is a press release accessible from the site, in Word format, identifying representatives of the recording industry as being with the site, but very, very few people are going to click through to it.
The word that springs to mind is fascism. When industry creates the laws, and industry claims its propaganda is non-biased "education," hiding its sponsorship of same, then you have government of business, by business, and for business.
Forced down the throats of your children under false pretenses.
Almost makes me want to download something illegally....
So what specifically do you disagree with from their FAQ? Their treatment of fair use, for example, looks like something you might see on Copyfight.
I'm really lost here. The site is an entirely reasonable presentation of issues, unless you fundamentally object to copyrights. By my reading, it really says nothing negative about the technologies and stresses the responsibility of individual users not to steal. What is wrong with that? If I were conspiratoriallly minded, I might even think it is so eminently reasonable as to bait opponents and make them look silly. But I think the people behind this are probably reasonable people who believe that they need to do more than sue to preserve the institution of intellectual property.
